Doesn’t a person have to be a lunatic before they ‘have a demon’?
Absolutely not! In the Bible, we find various cases where a person is said to be ‘possessed with a devil’, yet they are merely suffering from a physical infirmity such as blindness or a crippling ‘bone disorder’. Take a look at these cases found in the days of Jesus’ ministry:
Matthew 9:32-33, “When they left, some people brought to him a man who couldn’t speak because he was possessed by a demon. So Jesus cast out the demon, and instantly the man could talk. The crowds marveled. “Nothing like this has ever happened in Israel!” they exclaimed.” (New Living Translation)
Luke 13:11-12,16, “And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity… And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?” (King James Version)
Were these people lunatics? Were they mentally insane? No! They had spirits that caused them to be afflicted with physical infirmities!
