Isn't demon possession rare?
Not sure what to think of the deliverance ministry?

What the ministry of deliverance should be!
No, at least not according to the Bible. I believe the reason many people believe that possession is rare, is because they don't really understand what possession really is. Many believe that possession refers to ownership, as in the demon owns a person. The Bible tells us that all souls belong to God, so I believe it's virtually impossible for a person to be truly owned by a demon, regardless if they are a believer or not. I believe it is possible for a person to come almost if not completely under the control of a demon, but the Bible never said that every time a person is 'possessed' that they are completely under the demons control.
Just because a person is considered sick doesn't mean they are deathly ill, they may only have a sour throat caused by the spirit. There were cases in the Bible such as in Matthew 9:32-33 where the man was in his right mind, but just couldn't see because he had a demon. The demon was cast out and the man could see again! There's also the case where the daughter of Abraham was bound with a spirit of infirmity in Luke 13:11.
I think Hollywood has caused people to get the idea that demon possession is an extreme situation where heads spin, the person floats in the air, etc. This is no more irrational than saying that everybody who is sick is going to die, just because it happens in the movies. It is true that demons can cause a person to float in the air (it's called levitation), but it does not happen to everybody who has a demon.

Now that we know that demon possession is not always an extreme case as many believe, let's take a look at how often demons were cast out in the Bible:
Matthew 8:16, "When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick."
Mark 6:13, "And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them."
Luke 7:21, "And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight."
Acts 8:7, "For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them..."
Do you realize that Jesus may have very well freed roughly the same amount of people from evil spirits as He healed the sick? If you ask me, that alone gives us a good idea that demon possession is very popular, because there sure are a lot of sick people out there. If there's as many possessed as there are that are sick, then I'd say it's all around us!
There are plenty of accounts of people being freed from evil spirits in the NT, and it's no accident. If demon possession were rare, I feel our Bibles would rarely speak about it. But no, demon possession, like divine healings, were very popular in the NT! There's a very good reason so many accounts of people being freed from evil spirits are recorded in the New Testament.... it's a very common problem, just like sickness and diseases, and God wants His children to get involved and do something about it.
Another interesting fact is that in Mark 16:17, Jesus considered casting out demons a sign that will follow them who believe. I believe a sign is something that is common or popular, and is used to distinguish one group of people from another.
Mark 16:15-17, "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
Those who are experienced in this ministry usually don't even want to advertise their ministry because they are backed up for months with appointments to minister deliverance to those who are in need. This ministry is never boring or lacks referrals.
